Facebook Music for Bands

08.17.07 | 2 Comments

Is your band’s music on Facebook yet?

There’s only one correct way to put your music on Facebook, and that’s through the iLike widget. There’s currently many applications that allow bands to upload their music and post it on their profile, but iLike is the only app that has over 6 million users! The current process for bands to upload their music into iLike for Facebook isn’t the simplest of all methods, but for the extreme viral capabilities that this application has, it’s totally worth it!

Here’s what you have to do:

  1. Get a free account on Garageband.com and upload your music
  2. Next you need to install the iLike sidebar widget.
  3. Once your music goes through on Garageband, load and play it through the iLike sidebar widget.
  4. Add the iLike application now to your Facebook profile and search for your band!

Once you’ve added your music, make sure you tell all your friends about your music and talk them into putting it on their profiles as well as adding your band to their “iLike list.” The iLike music recommendation charts are pulled from the plays in the sidebar widget so get your friends to download that too and have them add you to their playlists!

Another cool feature iLike added is the ability to add concert dates for your band! When clicking on an artist, there’s a link to “add a concert listing.” Also note, if you keep your songs free to download, your music will be added to the free section. It seems like it’s easier to find “signed” artists when browsing through listings so if you need to, changes can be made in your Garageband settings.

Also check out similar programs like last.fm and radio blogs that have extensive viral capabilities. Uploading and sharing your music through these programs is an easy way to get heard. If you want your music for sale in services such as iTunes, I recommend signing up to CD Baby (www.cdbaby.com). It’s all non-exclusive and iTunes and other services pull their more independent libraries straight from CD Baby.

I also recommend checking out the new Facebook Music Marketing Book for bands. The book really dives into how to jump start your band on Facebook in ways you would have never thought of! It’s a great read, and will save most bands lots of time and money.

Our new facebook app the Music Wall allows facebook users to send free full track music to their friends that they can play, share and download.

There is also a Facebook app for ReverbNation, which would mean you don’t need to go thru GarageBand/iLike.
