You may have heard of FBML – it’s the language developers use to code Facebook Applications. If you’re marketing on Facebook, there’s an app called Static FBML that you can add to your Page that you’re marketing. So what is Static FBML and how can it help you?
Static FBML is a way for you to add custom graphics, forms, HTML code and lots more to your Facebook Page to turn it into kind-of-a website for your visitors. Why is it important to marketers? This app will give you more freedom and tools to create content that will help direct your visitors to your end goal.
For example, you can put easy-to-see buttons that lead visitors to your website on the side of your profile. You could make a custom tab that shows specific images or information about something your fans would be interested in (coupons, specials, etc.). With this app, you can multiple tabs as navigation, basically turning your Page into a miniature website.
Why not just direct the visitors to your website you might ask?
Well, the main reason is that people like screwing around on Facebook as crazy as that sounds. That’s partially the reason why social networks have such a hard time getting clicks on their ads. With multiple tabs, you can give visitors a sneak peak into your content without them leaving. They’re 10x more likely to click on that tab then they are to go to your website.
If you need help with creating content in Static FBML there are tons of tutorials out there! Most HTML code works fine in the Static FBML app. The only thing you’ll run into issues with is JavaScript – you’ll need to start looking at documentation do something fancy, but it’s all possible!
I’ll be adding static FBML to some custom pages that I’m building from the ground-up in the new and upcoming Facebook marketing video. Stay tuned!
