Facebook Marketing Limits

Facebook has some strict limits for marketing and promotion. Just how much? well in the old days a few hundred messages would just get you a warning message, which led to an account block for a day. Now it seems, for all sorts of different promotion amounts, Facebook will actually straight up disable your account (Your account has been disabled by an administrator).

Here’s some tips in marketing and promoting a profile on Facebook:

  1. Use a name that looks legitimate, Facebook disables fake-name accounts
  2. Use features built into Facebook to message your friends, such as the Notes application
  3. Add people as a friend first before interacting with them, but don’t send out too many requests per day
  4. Lay very low on the messages, use other methods of contacting such as the wall
  5. Do not send out the same message twice (they can easily track this)
  6. Don’t post too many wall comments either, and once again, never the same wall comment twice
  7. Do not send links in your messages and don’t post them on walls, instead post the link on your profile and redirect people to it
  8. If you do get a warning, stop what you’re doing and lay low for a day or two. Usually the rule is 3rd warning and you’re out.

Here’s the message many people receive…

Warning! Your account could be disabled.

You are using this feature to spam other users. Continued misuse of Facebook’s features will result in your account being disabled. If you have any questions or concerns, you can contact us at warning@facebook.com from your login address.

It’s obvious why they’re battling the spam so tough these days with MySpace and other networks sinking in it, but their super strict restrictions have been impacting a lot of general users too. Hopefully the restrictions lighten up a bit, but don’t count on it. After MySpace started implementing many spam-fighting strategies, Facebook has become higher on the target list for marketers.

In the end, it’s creativity that will win the promotion / marketing game for your brand on Facebook. Get to know the tools, tricks, and the rules, and you could develop some great marketing strategies that end up working well for your business.
