Security

One of the only security threats you should be worried about is Phishing. Phishing is the act of obtaining a user’s sensitive information by posting a fake website that appears to be a legitimate login screen. Hundreds of thousands of MySpace users have had their information stolen by these sites, which is usually sold at about $15.00 per thousand combinations. These combinations are later used in automated programs to send out bulletin and comment spam to all the user’s friends. The main culprits that use these techniques are affiliates of many different products and services. MySpace has sued many of these affiliates with claims in the millions of dollars for each. Doesn’t seem like such a viable opportunity anymore, but they’re still out there.

To protect yourself, always and only login at “www.myspace.com.” Do NOT login anywhere else. If you believe you are logged in and happen to land on the MySpace login page while browsing, type “www.myspace.com” into your browser to return to the actual MySpace homepage.
